DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The California Health and Safety Code section (HSC §) 44363 requires the District to prepare and publish an annual report that:
· Describes the priorities and categories of the permitted facilities and summarizes the results of health risk assessments.
· Ranks and identifies facilities according to the degree of cancer risk posed to the public.
· Identifies facilities which expose the public to non-cancer health risks.
· Describes the status of the development of control measures to reduce emissions of toxic air contaminants.
HSC § 44363(b) requires that the AQMD Board hold one or more public hearings to present the report and discuss its content and significance. This code section also requires that the District mail a notice of the report’s availability to the County Boards of Supervisors, City Councils, and health departments.
The report of all facilities assessed under AB 2588 from 2019 - 2023, as well as those assessed prior to 2019, can be found on the AQMD webpage. A notice was published on June 14, 2024, in the Mountain Democrat and the Tahoe Daily Tribune to invite public comment and participation.
Interested parties without internet access can obtain the reports by calling the AQMD office. The notice of report availability was mailed on May 24, 2024, to the South Lake Tahoe and the Placerville City Councils, and the El Dorado County Public Health Department officer.
