Title
Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), on behalf of the El Dorado County Veterans Affairs Commission (VAC), recommending the Board receive a presentation from the VAC which provides the Board with an annual report on the Commission’s operations over the past year.

FUNDING: N/A
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On November 19, 1991, the Board adopted Ordinance 4188 establishing the VAC. This ordinance was later repealed and replaced by Ordinance 5098 on January 15, 2019, to reflect current VAC practices (Legistar file 19-0002). On January 28, 2020, the Board introduced and approved Ordinance 5113, repealing Ordinance 5098, continuing the VAC, and adopting new bylaws (Legistar file 19-1198).

The VAC advises the Board by promoting public support for veterans, the National Guard, and the U.S. Armed Forces; reviewing relevant policies and programs; and offering timely information and recommendations to both the Board and the public on veterans and National Guard matters.

In line with County expectations for all boards and commissions, the VAC is required to provide an annual report to the Board. This presentation provides the Board with an overview of the Commission’s operations over the past year, including its accomplishments, challenges, and future priorities. The VAC continues to serve veterans and service members county-wide by reviewing community needs, fostering public engagement, and ensuring that issues affecting veterans, National Guard members, and active-duty personnel are elevated to the Board for consideration.

ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose not to receive the presentation.
