DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Sheriff's Office has received this grant funding since 2001. This funding has allowed Sheriff's law enforcement to address and mitigate several issues on the Rubicon Trail over the years. For a period of time, the Rubicon Trail was not a family friendly environment; however, due to increased law enforcement presence, users have noticed a positive change in the environment and culture, and the Trail has been a safe place for families to enjoy.

The grant funding is used to fund a portion of a Sergeant position as well as two deputies’ salaries and benefits. Grant funding is also used to purchase equipment and supplies to support law enforcement services on the Rubicon Trail and OHV areas within El Dorado County.

The initial grant application request was for approximately $520,000 to fund the Sheriff’s Office OHV program, but the award amount is for $146,293. Acceptance of these grant funds requires a 25% match, for this grant cycle that amount would be approximately $48,859 for a total of approximately $195,152.
