Title
Sheriff's Office recommending the Board adopt Resolution 135-2011 authorizing the Sheriff, or his designee, on behalf of the County, to sign and submit grant applications for various local, State and Federal competitive funding opportunities to augment Sheriff's Office funding in order to improve law enforcement services in El Dorado County.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:  None.
Body
Background: As a result of losses of revenue from State and Federal agencies, the Sheriff's Department has been expanding its grant program to proactively seek funding opportunities to augment a variety of programs and services impacting public safety.

Reason for Recommendation:  Many grant opportunities have short turn around times making it difficult for the Sheriff's Office to meet the grant application deadline while also complying with Board policy that requires approval from the Board of Supervisors prior to submitting grant applications.  Approval of this recommendation will streamline the grant application process and prevent missed funding opportunities due to grant submittal deadlines that are less than the lead time required for the Board of Supervisors Agenda Item approval process.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
1. The Board Chairman will sign the two copies of the resolution, and the Board Clerk will forward one signed Resolution to the Sheriff's Department for further processing.
2. The Sheriff's Department will continue to pursue grant opportunities for funding to support law enforcement services in El Dorado County.
3. The Sheriff, or his designee, will sign the necessary documents required to submit grant applications and execute grant agreements.
4. Upon receiving notification of an award of a grant, the Sheriff's Office will obtain approval from the Board to accept the grant funds.
