Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Public Health Division, recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation recognizing May 2017 as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month” in El Dorado County.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The month of May has historically been named “Skin Cancer Awareness Month” both nationally and in the State of California. This will be the first year the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors has approved a Proclamation naming May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
In collaboration with the City of Placerville, the Placerville Aquatic Center will host a Sun Protection Fest 2017 on Friday, June 2, 2017. All citizens, governmental agencies, public and private institutions, businesses, hospitals and schools in El Dorado County are encouraged to increase public awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention and promote greater understanding and use of skin protective habits.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could decline to approve the Proclamation naming May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
