DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
Community Development Agency, Transportation Division (Transportation) recommending the Board reject Caltrans' offer to the County of El Dorado to relinquish a section of right of way adjacent to State Route 89, near Camp Richardson in the Tahoe Basin.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On September 29, 2015 Caltrans’ District 3 Office sent the Board of Supervisors a letter offering to relinquish to the County, a section of right of way adjacent to State Route 89, near Camp Richardson in the Tahoe Basin. This offer is made pursuant to the State’s Street and Highway Code.
Transportation has examined the property represented by this offer. The long thin piece of property is along State Highway 89 and runs through National Forest land; it does not adjoin any County roadway or any other County facility. Transportation, after discussions with the Parks and Recreation and Facilities Divisions, does not believe this property is viable for County use.
ALTERNATIVES
Accept the offer, take ownership of the property and responsibility for long-term maintenance and any potential liabilities associated with the property.
