Title
Agriculture Department, on behalf of Fish and Wildlife Commission, recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a Fiscal Year 2023-24 budget transfer decreasing General Fund Contingency and increasing appropriations in the Fish and Wildlife Commission in the amount of $15,000 for Youth Fishing Derbies. FUNDING: General Fund.
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Department submitted their FY 2023-24 budget in the amount of $23,000 which included a calculation error in Fund Balance of $18,000. When the FY 2022-23 books closed, the actual fund balance was $2,215, leaving a $15,000 shortfall for the current fiscal year projects.
The Fish and Wildlife Commission has scheduled several Youth Fishing Derbies and other educational events for the County, which they presented to the Board of Supervisors at their regularly scheduled meeting on August 22, 2023 (Legistar Item 23-1522). The Commission is requesting a general fund contribution for FY 2023-24 in the amount of $15,000 for the continuation of the Fishing Derbies for the County’s youth.
The Fish and Wildlife Commission receives revenue each year from court fines and penalties in amounts that range from $1,200-$7,782 historically. Compared to this time last year, court fines and penalties are under budget. In addition, the General Fund has provided contributions in amounts ranging from $12,000 to $20,000 in prior years. In FY 2022-23 the Commission received a General Fund contribution of $15,000. Currently for FY 2023-24 court fines are coming in under budget.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose to not pull from General Fund Contingency and the Commission would not be able to complete their workplan for FY 2023-24.
