DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

Lake Tahoe, one of the nation’s most iconic and treasured landscapes, has been protected through one of the nation's most successful public-private partnerships. Since Senators Harry Reid and Dianne Feinstein convened the first Lake Tahoe Summit in 1997, the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program and its more than 80-member "Team Tahoe" coalition have delivered over 900 projects restoring the lake's water quality, forests, and ecosystems. As the 30th Annual Lake Tahoe Summit convenes on August 19, 2026, hosted by Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada, El Dorado County joins in celebrating three decades of progress and commitment to protecting Lake Tahoe.
