Title
Chief Administrative Office recommending the Board receive a report in regards to the Federal Coordination Advisory Committee and provide direction to staff on next steps.
Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
There is an indirect fiscal impact due to increased staff time spent in Committee administration. There is no change to net county cost.
Background
On December 10, 2013 the Board of Supervisors reconsidered the Federal Coordination Advisory Committee and directed staff to make contact with citizens potentially interested in serving on the committee. As a result, the Chief Administrative Office and Information Technologies created a custom application form, distributed the attached press release to local media, posted the materials on county websites, and contacted individuals who had previously applied to the Committee. In addition, Supervisor's assistants also provided the information to key individuals and groups. Applications were accepted through January 31.
A total of 20 applications were received and are attached to this item (Attachment 5B). Chief Administrative Office staff prepared a brief summary of applications (Attachment 5C).
During the application process representatives from the transportation and fire agencies raised concern that there were no Committee appointments available for those sectors. The Board of Supervisors may want to consider adding these positions to the Committee as both sectors are impacted by federal funding and management actions.
Options for consideration:
1) Expand Committtee membership
2) Reduce Committee membership
3) Reorganize Committee functions and membership
