DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
Pursuant to California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5604.2, the Mental Health Commission is required to submit an annual report to the Board of Supervisors on the needs and performance of the County’s mental health system.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5604 requires that each county have a mental health board with responsibility for reviewing and evaluating the community's mental health needs, services, facilities, and special problems. Additional responsibilities identified in Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5604.2 include advising the governing body and the local mental health director as to any aspect of the local mental health program, reviewing and approving procedures to ensure citizen and professional involvement in the planning process, reviewing and making recommendations on applicants for the appointment of the local mental health director, and reviewing and commenting on county's mental health performance outcomes.
The El Dorado County Mental Health Commission was established by the Board in 1993. The Mental Health Commission holds regular public meetings and works closely with the Health and Human Services Agency, Mental Health Division on all aspects of the local mental health system.
