Community Development Agency, Transportation Division, recommending the Board adopt Resolution 166-2014 sanctioning the closure of Main Street, in Georgetown between Highway 193 and Placer Street on Saturday, October 18, 2014 and Sunday, October 19, 2014 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for the “Cowboy Gathering on the Georgetown Divide”, subject to conditions set forth in Resolution No. 110-79 and conditions set forth in the "Application for Road Closure."

Background
The inaugural “Cowboy Gathering on the Georgetown Divide" is a cowboy poetry, storytelling, folk music and folk culture festival. It will take place over two days, October 18-19, 2014 in Georgetown. It is being presented by the American River Folk Society, a GDRD community partner. There will be two performances each day on two main stages at the IOOF Hall and at the Georgetown Community Center featuring a diversity of performers within the genre; a community dinner, show and dance featuring Sourdough Slim and the Stardust Cowboys at the IOOF Hall on Saturday night; workshops (e.g. dutch oven cooking, Native American foods and crafts, storytelling techniques and more); a chili cook-off, western art, living history exhibits, a saloon, food and craft vendors that are true to the cowboy period.
Reason for Recommendation
The Transportation Division is recommending Board approval of the road closure to provide for the safety of participants, volunteers and spectators along the course, and to assist in the success of this community event. Other involved agencies have made no objections to this closure.
Clerk of the Board Follow Up Actions
1. The Clerk will obtain the Chair’s signature on the Resolution.
2. The Clerk will send an executed copy of the Resolution to the Transportation Division.
