DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The El Dorado Search and Rescue Council (ESARC) was incorporated in 1986 as a non-profit public benefit corporation. The specific purpose of ESARC is to assist any and all subordinate groups who will recruit, organize, train and provide skilled search and rescue personnel and equipment to assist the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue in all search, rescue, and disaster activities.
On March 4, 2019, ESARC Board of Directors approved a budget for the purchase of a new Polaris General 4 1000, Polaris Pro Track System and Trailer that was authorized to be donated to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. The last time ESARC donated equipment to the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteer unit was in 1990 with a purchase and donation of a new truck that is still in use.
The purpose of this donation is to greatly enhance the Search and Rescue Unit’s mission of providing life-saving assistance to the visitors and citizens of El Dorado County. The Polaris UTV, with removable Tracks, will enable the SAR Team to be more efficient in extreme winter conditions and in remote, rugged terrain. The 4-passenger capacity of the Polaris General 4 will allow the Search and Rescue Team to rapidly deploy personnel and equipment into the field to execute a wide variety of search, rescue and extraction/evacuation support missions.
