DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
This proclamation honors the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have lost their lives in service to our country and acknowledges the profound sacrifices made by military families and veterans within our community. Ratifying the Chair’s signature ensures the proclamation is formally entered into the public record and allows the County to join national and local observances that pay tribute to those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms. This action also supports community organizations, veterans’ groups, and residents participating in Memorial Day ceremonies throughout the county.
The request for ratification of the Chair’s signature is being brought forward at this time because the proclamation needed to be issued in advance of several Memorial Day events occurring over the weekend of May 23, 2026. Due to the timing of these community events and the fact that the item had not been presented to the Board beforehand, the Chair executed the proclamation so it could be provided to organizers in a timely manner. Ratification by the Board will formally affirm the action taken and ensure the proclamation is properly included in the official record.
