DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On June 15, 2021, the Governor lifted many of his requirements that were put into place to slow the spread of COVID-19.  Subsequently, on June 17, 2021, Cal OSHA revised their workplace regulations stating that fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear face coverings and the Governor issued an executive order implementing the new Cal OSHA regulations immediately.

While these changes are an improvement, the Governor has yet to provide additional guidance regarding what measures, if any, will still be required for children while at school when classes resume this fall. Therefore, it is essential that the Board of Supervisors go on record advocating that schools return to normal, pre-COVID operations and confirming our ongoing commitment to support our school districts in providing them the authority to determine what is best for their students.
