DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Each year the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) identifies one week in the month of July to salute and celebrate the valuable efforts of over 100,000 community corrections professionals across the country that help supervise close to 6.4 million individuals. This year, APPA has identified July 17, through 23 as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week.
This year, the Probation Department, along with the Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC), also designate July 17, through 23, as Probation Services Week.
Probation Officers and the staff that support the mission of the Probation Department are dedicated public servants who identify with a distinctive professional tradition focused on the reduction of recidivism and promoting pro-social behaviors of individuals involved in the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
Probation professionals operate with a particular set of skills, experiences, and trainings that culminate in the delivery of a unique and necessary service designed to provide public protection and enhance the lives of families in the community.
For this reason the El Dorado County Probation Department would request the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors acknowledge by proclamation the week of July 17, through 23, 2022, as Probation Services Week.
