DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION:
Health and Human Services Agency, working with the Chief Administrative Office staff, have developed a revision to Board of Supervisors Policy F-2, expanding the scope of the policy to incorporate the areas of both the West Slope and South Lake Tahoe, as well as offering a process to recognize those individuals and non-profit organizations who are interested in donating to the Animal Shelter of the County.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
On October 1, 2013, the Board of Supervisors adopted current Policy F-2 “West Slope Animal Shelter Private Donor Recognition Policy,” establishing a “West Slope Animal Shelter Donor Fund” to be administered by the El Dorado Community Foundation as a subfund of People for Animal Welfare in El Dorado County. In addition, current Policy F-2 authorized People for Animal Welfare in El Dorado County (PAWED) and the El Dorado Community Foundation to solicit donations toward the construction of and equipment for a new West Slope Animal Shelter.
PAWED, established in 2000, collaborated with the County on many projects to promote compassionate and responsible care for all animals in our community, and in 2005 became a strong advocate for the building of a new West Slope Animal Shelter. In 2013 that partnership resulted in the adoption of the current Board Policy F-2, allowing for recognition of donations specific to the Animal Shelter building. Following the opening of the new West Slope Animal Shelter, PAWED disbanded December 31, 2014.
At this time, HHSA is recommending revision of Policy F-2, expanding the geographic area to cover the entire County of El Dorado, and opening the process to accept donations and recognize private individuals or approved non-profit...
