Title

Treasurer-Tax Collector recommending the Board authorize the issuance of a business license to Jolene Smith, doing business as Jo’s Emporium and Consignment Smith, operating a fortunetelling/psychic reading business in the Cool area pursuant to El Dorado County Ordinance Code, Title 5, Section 5.14.070, Business Taxes, Licenses and Regulations.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

El Dorado County Ordinance Code, Title 5, Section 5.14.070, Business Taxes, Licenses and Regulations - Fortunetelling, states:

" A. No license may be issued without the express authorization of the Board of Supervisors. The Board may limit the number of licenses issued to such number as in its judgment will serve the public health, safety and welfare.

 B. Within 30 days after an application is made, the Sheriff shall file a written report with the Board of Supervisors stating his or her recommendations regarding issuance of the license."

 

The Sheriff Department's recommendation for approval is attached to this Item as Attachment A.

 

Currently there are four active business licenses for fortunetelling/psychic reading in the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County.

 

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could decide not to authorize issuance of this license.

OTHER DEPARTMENT / AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The Sheriff's Department recommends issuance of the license. Applicant submitted fingerprints and has passed a California Department of Justice Security clearance, pursuant to County Ordinance 5.14.070 and Ordinance 3515 Section 12 (part) 1985.
