DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Sheriff’s Office Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) Unit utilizes Live Scan fingerprinting equipment to process applicant identity verification and criminal history submissions in compliance with California Department of Justice (DOJ) requirements. Recent implementation and expanded use of California Real ID-compliant driver licenses and identification cards require Livescan systems to be updated to ensure compatibility with enhanced identity verification standards.

The Sheriff’s Office CCW Unit requires the purchase of a new Livescan machine capable of fully supporting Real ID technology as their current machine is too outdated to add additional equipment that supports the new IDs. The estimated cost for the purchase and installation of this upgraded Livescan unit is approximately $25,000. Acquisition of this equipment will ensure continued compliance with state identification requirements, reduce processing delays, and maintain the integrity of CCW applicant verification.

In addition, approximately $25,000 is requested to upgrade existing Livescan machines throughout the county so that Livescan machines in various locations throughout the County remain current with Real ID compatibility and DOJ technology standards.
