DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On March 14, 2023, the Board during the Introduction (First Reading) of Ordinance 5175 amending Title 2, Article XIV, Section 2.20.110 (et. seq.) dissolving the El Dorado County Human Rights Commission directed staff to add a statement to the Good Governance Handbook reaffirming the Board's commitment to the values otherwise embodied in the Human Right's Commission. The bylaws of the Commission stated that the purpose of the Human Rights Commission was to promote tolerance and mutual respect among all persons, and to foster peaceful relations between all county residents and visitors, and to preserve the public peace among residents and visitors of different races, religions, national origins, and the other characteristics listed in Government Code section 11135.
