DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Union Mine WWTP Facility, located at 5700 Union Mine Road, has been in operation since 1996. The facility has 2 centrifuges that separate solids and wastewater for further treatment. Centrifuge #2 was replaced in 2000 with a GEA Westfalia unit, and centrifuge #1 was replaced in 2004, also with a GEA Westfalia unit.
Centrifuge #1 has been inoperable for 7 years due to a control panel malfunction and lack of available parts and companies for repair. This project will allow for two new updated control panels to be installed, which will allow both centrifuges to function properly and maintain the facility in operation.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board may choose to deny the approval of this construction project. This would inhibit Environmental Management’s ability to effectively process and remove solids from the wastewater treatment plant and ultimately leading to the closure of the treatment plant.
