DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
In anticipation of opening the dog park located at 4650 Oriental Street, the Parks Division is drafting a set of rules and regulations to be posted at the park. To ensure that these rules are enforceable, the County must amend the current Parks Ordinance to include dog parks. If approved to do so, the Parks Division will draft a new chapter on dog parks, labeled Chapter 9.49, working with the Parks Commission. Once a draft is finalized, the Parks Division will return to the Board for the first reading.
On September 21, 2021, the Board approved the allocation of $50,000 Prop 68 Grant Funds, and $12,500 County match for a total project cost of $62,500.
On May 16, 2023, the Board approved the relocation of the dog park to the Rail Park location at 4650 Oriental Street in El Dorado.
As of December 2023, Parks staff are working with Facilities staff to complete the dog park improvements. Following approval of the ordinance, dog park rules will be posted at the park.
ALTERNATIVES
