Title
Supervisor Briggs recommending the Board approve the Chair's signature on a letter of support for the application to designate the Mountain Quarries Railroad Bridge as a California Historical Landmark.
Body
The Placer County Historical Foundation, with support from the El Dorado County Historical Society and the Placer County Historical Society, is sponsoring an effort to seek a California Historical Landmark designation for the Mountain Quarries Railroad Bridge.  As the Bridge crosses the American River and connects the Counties of El Dorado and Placer, a request was submitted to the Chairman's office to join the County of Placer in support of the application seeking this designation.

Built in 1912, the Mountain Quarries Railroad Bridge, also known as the "No Hands Bridge," has contributed significantly to the County of El Dorado as an economic, transportation, and recreation resource for over 100 years.

Placed on the Register of National Historic Places in 2004, the Placer County Historical Foundation seeks a California Historical Landmark designation for the Bridge.  Designation as a California Historical Landmark will result in  the automatic listing of the Bridge in publications and online websites that publish the history and location of the Bridge and the requirement for Caltrans to install "California Historical Landmark" signs along Highway 49; opportunities that will further promote tourism in the County and throughout the region.
