DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
At the request of the Information Technologies Department, the Chief Administrative Office, Procurement and Contracts Division, issued on Invitation to Bid for Network Switches and Accessories to replace end-of-life equipment in the County data center core network infrastructure. This is a planned cyclical hardware replacement.

The Invitation to Bid was published in the County's eProcurement system, PlanetBids. One hundred twelve (112) bid notices were sent to external vendors, and twelve (12) to vendors registered as El Dorado County vendors in PlanetBids. Twenty one (21) qualified responses were received, two (2) from local vendors. The lowest qualified bidder is Saitech, Inc. Attachment B is the Bid Evaluation showing Saitech, Inc. as the lowest qualified bidder.

ALTERNATIVES
Without the purchase of this equipment, the County would be at risk of network downtime, leading to employee productivity loss and inability to serve the public. The current network equipment is at end-of-life and has no hardware or software support from the manufacturer.
