DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On January 31, 2022, an unusually strong storm impacted much of California. During this storm the El Dorado County Veterans Building, located at 130 Placerville Drive, had the lower-level parking lot flooded resulting in category 3 water damage. Category 3 water damage may include rising flood waters and/or sewage and requires swift action to mitigate serious health risks. El Dorado County Facilities engaged the assistance of Cleanrite Buildrite for the initial hazardous mitigation/demolition and sanitization work. The hazardous mitigation/demolition and sanitization work cost approximately $44,000 and was covered with various project savings within the ACO fund.

The second phase of the work will include the build back work to return the facility to its original condition. Work may include but not limited to the restoration of up to 6200 square feet (sf) of floor space; 6200 sf of flooring, 8800 sf of walls, and 6200 sf of ceilings. It is anticipated the scope of work may involve framing, sheetrock, tape/texture/paint, epoxy flooring, sheet vinyl, cove base, wainscoting, cabinetry, electrical, plumbing, trim, and other finishes. The expected cost to re-build the facility to its original condition may be up to $300,000. The Facilities Division intends to utilize one of the County’s existing Job Order Contractors to complete the work in the coming months. The bottom floor of the Veteran's Memorial Building will remain closed until the rebuild is completed.
