DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Deputy Brian Ishmael, a Placerville native and Ponderosa High School graduate, was a four-year veteran of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office who served previously in the Placerville Police Department. Answering a call for service on October 23, 2019, he was fatally injured, leaving behind his wife Katie and three children, Prudence, Zoey and Cash. Amid an outpouring of grief and sympathy among Deputy Ishmael’s family, friends, law enforcement colleagues and the community as a whole, crowds of well-wishers turned out on November 5, 2019, to line the route of his funeral procession from Roseville, CA, back home to El Dorado County.
The establishment of Deputy Brian Ishmael Day and the naming of the Public Safety Facility shooting range in his honor will ensure that his service and sacrifice will always be an example worthy of honor and remembrance.
