The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians has previously entered into a compact with the State of California. Recent legal developments affecting the law applicable to such compacts have caused that compact to be renegotiated. The Tribe has reached an agreement on a renegotiated compact with the Governor's office, and is commencing the ratification process in the State Legislature.
The Tribe has asked the County to provide a letter in support of its renegotiated compact. Supervisors Briggs and Sweeney were appointed by the Board of Supervisors to represent the County's interests in regards to the Tribe, and recommend that the Board authorize the Chairman to sign a letter in support of the renegotiated compact.
