Supervisor Santiago recommending the Board authorize the Chair to sign Resolution 020-2013 to consolidate Lake Tahoe Community College trustee elections to general even-year elections pursuant to Education Code Sections 5300 and 5342.
Body
The Board of Trustees of the Lake Tahoe Community College District have voted to approve to consolidate the current odd-year governing board elections to occur on the same date as even-year general elections to provide a cost savings as well as a higher voter turn out. Additionally, board members elected in 2009 shall be extended until until November, 2014 and board members elected in 2011 shall be extended until the election held in November, 2016.
California Elections Code section 10405.7, subdivision (a), authorizes the Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees to adopt and submit a resolution to the Board of Supervisors no later than 240 days prior to the date of the currently scheduled election, consequently, the Board of Trustees is submitting the adopted, signed and approved resolution for consideration and approval.
