Title
Parks, a division of the Chief Administrative Office, recommends the Commission discuss ideas for recognizing parks and trails volunteers.
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Volunteers are vital to the County Parks and Trails Division’s (Division) programs and operations. Volunteers support the Division with trail workdays, park and river cleanups, and a variety of special projects that help keep the County’s parks and trails clean, maintained, and open to the public. A variety of volunteers support the Division from individual community volunteers to service groups, local non-profits and agencies, and outdoor recreation clubs.
In alignment with the Parks and Recreation Commission 2025-26 Goal to “Support staff with recruiting volunteer base, providing motivational support, and recognizing volunteer achievements”, Division staff seek guidance from the Commission on establishing a volunteer recognition plan to annually celebrate the achievements of parks and trails volunteers.
The establishment of a volunteer recognition program is supported by Parks and Trails Master Plan Initiative 4.1.4. to “provide motivational support for and retention of volunteers through calls to service and recognition of efforts”.
