DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Library Department is recommending the Board create a Library Funding & Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee. The intent of the Library Funding & Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee is to explore funding options for the library. The special tax for the Georgetown Library and South Lake Tahoe Library will expire on June 30, 2027. El Dorado County libraries are funded with the following special taxes:

- Resolutions 313-2001 (voter approval 3/05/2002) and 236-2004 (voter approval 11/2/2004) authorized a special tax in Library Zone E - El Dorado Hills

- Resolution 010-2014 (voter approval 6/3/2014) authorized a special tax in Library Zone F - South Lake Tahoe.

- Resolution 011-2014 (voter approval 6/3/2014) authorized a special tax in Library Zone G - Georgetown.

- On July 2, 1993, the Board adopted Resolution 226-93 establishing a library benefit assessment for extended library services within County Service Area No. 10, Zone D, for extended library services at the Cameron Park Branch Library.

Staff are recommending the Board create the Library Funding & Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee to explore funding options for the library and determine what ballot measures for special taxes or other funding sources should be considered and brought back to the Board for consideration.
