No Change to Net County Cost. California Department of Parks and Recreation Dept of Boating and Waterways, and Off-Highway Vehicle Grants will cover this position’s costs.

The salary and benefits cost of the Sheriff’s Sergeant is estimated at $182,895 for twelve months. It is anticipated that the position will be filled for 2 months in the current fiscal year at a cost of approximately $28,138.

Background
In the recent past a full-time Sergeant has not been allocated to El Dorado County's Waterways and Off-Highway Vehicle pathways. The Sheriff's Office is putting a priority on these programs and would like to use the funding resources from the California Department of Parks and Recreation Dept of Boating and Waterways, and Off-Highway Vehicle Grants to dedicate a Sergeant position to lead the Boating Safety Unit and OHV Rubicon Patrol activities.

Reason for Recommendation
The Sheriff’s Office has determined that a new Sergeant is needed to provide the specialized technical skill and supervision required for the Boating/OHV unit.
