DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) strengthens the role of the community corrections industry and aims to reduce recidivism to keep communities safe. This year, the APPA will celebrate 90,000 community corrections professionals around the country on July 20 through 26, during National Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week. The recognition is designed to honor the work of community corrections professionals. These professionals work in various roles, including pretrial services, probation, and parole, and are dedicated to public safety and offender rehabilitation. APPA’s 2025 theme is “Heroes Behind the Mission: Changing Lives, Enhancing Public Safety.”

The El Dorado County Probation Department is committed to providing public safety through collaborative partnerships and innovative practices in corrections. We approach this mission with accountability and compassion to create a safe community through changed lives. We believe that our well-trained, dedicated, and compassionate employees are our department's most valuable asset. We respect human rights and diversity and foster transparency through our accountability and communication. We strive to provide exemplary service by leading with integrity, humility, honesty and equality.
