Background: Recorder-Clerk Bill Schultz was appointed as Interim Director over Veteran Affairs by the Board of Supervisors effective November 12, 2009.  Mr. Schultz has assumed the duties and responsibilities for that position without any increase in compensation.

Reason for Recommendation:  The Chief Administrative Office is recommending that Mr. Schultz receive an increase in salary of five percent in recognition of the additional duties and responsibilities he has assumed based upon his appointment as Interim Director over Veteran Affairs.  The FY 10/11 Budget assumes that Mr. Shultz will continue to fill the role of Interim Director over Veteran Affairs for the upcoming year and has this increase built into it. Mr. Shultz's assumption of these duties has allowed the retention of a Veteran's Services Officer. The increase in salary will be effective the first pay period following Board approval and continue until the duties and responsibilities of Interim Director over Veteran Affairs are reassigned or removed.

Action to be taken following Board approval:  The Department of Veteran Affairs will submit a payroll processing form to Human Resources to implement this temporary salary increase.
