Title
Environmental Management Department recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign the Household Hazardous Waste Facility Agreement with the El Dorado Hills County Water District.
FUNDING: Community Service Area 10 Household Hazardous Waste.
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On March 15, 1994 the Board approved an agreement with the El Dorado Hills County Water District which authorized the Environmental Management Department (EMD) to conduct household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events at the Districts Fire Station 86 located at 990 Lassen Lane, El Dorado Hills, CA. Through the agreement, the station was established as a permanent HHW collection center to assist County in providing for the convenient and proper collection and disposal of HHW and universal waste.
The location of the station has subsequently moved to 3670 Bass Lake Road in El Dorado Hills, CA. In 2019 Fire District staff requested that the agreement be revised to utilize Environmental Management staff for these events without assistance from Fire District staff, as well as to reflect the current location of the new Fire District location. In March of 2020 the facility was shut down due to the COVID19 pandemic, which delayed discussion of a new agreement.
In June of this year, a draft agreement was finalized with the El Dorado Hills County Water District and Fire Station 86 to reestablish and continue these efforts through December 31, 2024 when this usage will terminate dependent upon the needs of the community. The District’s Board approved the Agreement on June 17, 2021.
ALTERNATIVES
As an alternative, the Board may refuse to sign this agreement in which case the Environmental Management Department would continue to provide temporary household hazardous waste events on a monthly basis throughout the Cameron Park and Rescue area, and would need to source another location to establish a permanent household hazardous waste collection facility.
