DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Friends of the Library of El Dorado County, Inc. incorporated in 1966 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation for the purpose of supporting the libraries in El Dorado County.
The organization consists of a Corporate Board and established Chapters at each County branch library.
The magnitude of the Friends of the Library of El Dorado County support has increased significantly over the years, and the organization is integral to the Library Department.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to clearly state the separate roles of the Library and the Friends of the Library and to clarify the responsibilities of each.
The Memorandum of Understanding also recognizes the Friends of the Library as a public benefit to El Dorado County, and allows them use of library facilities for fundraising activities with permission from the Director of Library Services.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
The Friends of the Library provides approximately $200,000 each year for the purchase of books, equipment, and programs for six County Libraries and the Bookmobile.

1) Obtain the Chair's signature on two originals.
2) Return the signed originals to the Library to the attention of Jeanne Amos.
