Title
Supervisor Santiago recommending the Board adopt a Proclamation recognizing July 3, 2010 through July 11, 2010 as "Lake Tahoe Basin Wildfire Awareness Week." (Est. Time: 5 Min.)
Body
This proclamation is in support of the Lake Tahoe Basin's first Wildfire Awareness Week July 3rd to 11th, 2010.
This event is being held to encourage all Lake Tahoe Basin residents to "BE EMBER PREPARED!" and help protect their homes and communities from the embers that cause destruction of many homes during wildfires. Both California and Nevada already host a Wildfire Awareness Week in early May, but participation has been low in the Tahoe Basin, due in part to the fact that many second home owners are only present later in the summer.
In response, a partnership of fire service professionals, the Nevada Fire Safe Council, University of Nevada and University of California Cooperative Extensions, and other interested organizations, have joined forces to promote wildfire and ember awareness through a coordinated campaign at Lake Tahoe in July, 2010.
The goal of the week is to motivate and empower residents and visitors to take action now to protect homes and communities from embers that can attack during a wildfire. Events and activities are planned throughout the Lake Tahoe basin to remind the residents and visitors of the risks inherent to living in a fire prone environment and the importance of taking measures now to reduce the threat and increase the protection of their homes and communities.
Events are listed on the Wildfire Awareness page at www.livingwithfire.info/tahoe <http://www.livingwithfire.info/tahoe>.

Assist us in getting the message out to Lake Tahoe basin homeowners to BE EMBER PREPARED!
