DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Sheriff’s Office is recommending the Board approve the purchase of a Volvo two axle rear load compaction garbage truck for $1.00 from Waste Connections.  This vehicle will be utilized by staff for the removal of illegal marijuana grows throughout the County.  The use of a compaction truck versus a stake bed vehicle or a standard pickup provides for more efficiency when transporting illegal plants to be destroyed.  Costs to maintain the Volvo garbage truck will average an estimated fifteen hundred dollars annually.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

This will be purchased with the Sheriff’s Office 2019-20 General Fund budget.  An estimated cost of $1,500 annually to maintain the vehicle will be covered with Domestic Cannabis Eradication Program funding as available or other discretionary front line law enforcement sources of revenue.
