Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funding will be provided by the General Fund.
Background: An Agreement with Alpine Smith, Inc. to provide snow removal and snow staking services for County facilities was negotiated by the Environmental Management Department and then taken over by the Department of Transportation as the department responsible for facility maintenance.  Agreement #11-53342 (574-S1210) for the period of November 5, 2011 through February 28, 2012 was executed to ensure safe access to County facilities in the Tahoe Basin.   The shortened contract term was selected to allow for evaluation of this service under contract.
Reason for Recommendation: Staff recommends continuation of the snow removal and snow staking services Agreement through April 30, 2012 to meet the snow removal and snow staking needs for the current winter.  Further analysis will be required to determine the most efficient and cost effective method for snow removal at County facilities in the future.  It is necessary to increase the compensation amount of the contract by $24,834 to cover the extended period of the Agreement.
The responsibility for the buildings and grounds maintenance functions has recently been transferred from the Department of Transportation to the Chief Administrative Office.  This First Amendment to Agreement # 11-53342 (574-1210) changes the Contract Administrator and notices recipient to Russ Fackrell, Acting Facilities Manager.
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Clerk of the Board of Supervisors will retain one original of the First Amendment to Agreement for Services 11-53342 (574-1210) and return one original to the Chief Administrative Office for further processing.
