Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funding for equipment rentals is included in the Road Fund budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 and will be included in the budget of subsequent years covered by this Agreement.

Background: The Department of Transportation has equipment rental agreements with several equipment rental companies for use as necessary to support operations. The equipment owned by the County is always used as a priority and equipment is only rented when equipment that is owned is not sufficient to perform the necessary work.

Reason for Recommendation: With the expansion of DOT operations to include Fleet Services, Airports, and Rubicon Trail maintenance and improvement projects, the need to obtain a variety of equipment to support diverse operations has enlarged. The Agreement submitted here for approval will cover a three year term for an amount not to exceed $150,000. The full amount may not be needed during the three year term but gives the Department the flexibility to rent equipment as required to meet operational needs.

Heavy equipment rental is included in the exemptions from competitive bidding approved by the Board under Resolution 142-2001.
