Background: In 1949, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the "Gold Rush", a Wagon Train was formed to travel west from Lake Tahoe to Placerville (Old Hangtown) along Highway 50.  This "one time" event was not presented in 1950, but due to the  popularity of the event, the Wagon Train resumed in 1951, and has made its annual trek each year since that time.

Reason for Recommendation:  Historically, the County has contributed funding to the Wagon Train event which celebrates the history of El Dorado County, promotes tourism, and offers students and families an educational opportunity by allowing them to experience history first-hand.  In the past, the funding has been included in the budget for the County Museum.  Upon approval of the funding agreement for the 2008 Wagon Train,  the Board directed that the funding be budgeted in the County Promotions budget in recognition of the role of this event in promoting County tourism.

Action to be taken following Board approval:  The Chief Administrative Office will distribute copies of the executed agreement and will process payment.
