Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None.

Reason for Recommendation: Annually the Federal Government declares the month of May as "Older Americans Month", and the State proclaims May as "Older Californians Month". The 2012 theme is “Older Americans: Never Too Old to Play”. The attached Proclamation designates May, 2012 as Older Americans Month in El Dorado County to pay tribute to the rapidly increasing older population in local communities and throughout the world and encourages social interaction across generations for the benefit of all involved. A local celebration sponsored by the El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and Commission on Aging took place on May 16, 2012 at each Senior Nutrition mealsite.

Every year, members of the public are invited to nominate a senior they believe has made a significant contribution to the local community to be considered for designation as Senior of the Year. A panel of Commission on Aging members reviews the nominations and awards this prestigious title to the nominee they believe, based on information presented in the nomination, best demonstrates selfless dedication to serving their fellow County residents and the community at large.
