Background
The Camino, Placerville, and Lake Tahoe Railroad Caboose #2 was used to haul railroad workers and freight  from the Michigan-California Lumber Company mill in Camino to the Southern Pacific yard in Placerville.  This standard gauge caboose was used by the railroad from the 1920's until the 1950's, and was donated to the Historical Museum in the 1990's where it has remained on site in declining condition. The Camino, Placerville and Lake Tahoe Railroad Caboose #2 is the only El Dorado County based caboose in existence.

Reason for Recommendation
Museum volunteers who are highly skilled in woodworking have agreed to restore the caboose for future use at the Railroad Park in El Dorado.  The caboose will be moved to an offsite location for restoration, and moved to the El Dorado Railroad Park following completion.  The total cost of the restoration is expected to exceed $20,000, including a storage container and work shelter that will be used by Museum volunteers in the future.  This budget transfer represents the purchase of lumber for the initial stage of the project.

Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
Procurements and Contracts to approve Requisition for the purchase of $8,200 in lumber.
Museum volunteers to relocate caboose to offsite location.
Museum volunteers to restore caboose and move to Railroad Park.
