Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
No Change to Net County Cost. The funding and offsetting expenditures will be identified in the Sheriff's Office Fiscal Year 2013/14 budget.

Background
Each year, the County receives funds from the California Department of Boating and Waterways to patrol the County's rivers and lakes. Funding received by the Sheriff pays for Extra-Help Deputy Sheriffs who patrol rivers and lakes in the unincorporated area of the County from May to September. Funding is also provided for permanent staff who provide river and lake patrol service on a year-round basis, as well as for the supplies and equipment needed to run the boating program. As a condition of participating in this program, the County must use the boat property taxes to partially fund this program. The Auditor's Office provides the estimated funding, which will be included in the Sheriff's Fiscal Year 2013/14 budget in the amount of $122,578.

Reason for Recommendation
The State has approved the State Department of Boating and Waterways request for funding for Fiscal Year 2013/14. El Dorado County has been approved for $319,546 for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.
