Title
Supervisors Briggs and Mikulaco recommending the Board authorize the Chairman to sign a letter in support of SB 296 (Correa), proposing to provide increased local assistance for County Veterans Services Officers.
Body
Counties currently provide approximately 84% of the cost associated with services provided by County Veterans Services Organizations with the remaining 16% provided by the State through the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA).  The State currently allocates $2.6 million per year to be distributed to the 56 California counties with County Veterans Services Officers.  This allocation has remained nearly unchanged for the past 18 years.

SB 296 proposes to increase the amount of State assistance to County Veterans Services Organizations by $5 million.

There are over 17,874 veterans residing in the County of El Dorado, not including dependents or surviving family members.  Passage of SB 296 would make it possible to expand services to the hundreds of underserved veterans and their dependents living in the county.
