Supervisors Briggs and Veerkamp recommending the Board recognize Mark Divittorio for his extraordinary acts of courage on April 4, 2013, as part of the efforts to rescue the Lemler Family from the American River.
Body
On Thursday, April 4, 2013, the Lemler Family's vehicle plunged into the South Fork of the American River.  The vehicle was submerged and on its side with the three young daughters on the roof, Mr. Lemler trapped inside and Mrs. Lemler working to keep his his head above the water.   Mark Divittorio was kayaking along the same portion of the river and was able and willing to immediately assist the family by carrying the Lemler's three daughters to shore and in aiding the efforts of the local fire and public safety agencies to rescue Mr. and Mrs. Lemler.

The multi-agency effort to rescue and transport the Lemler Family to area hospitals included personnel from the El Dorado County Fire Protection District, the Cameron Park Fire Department/CAL FIRE, the California Highway Patrol and the County of El Dorado Sheriff's Department.
