Reason for Recommendation
In December 2009 the primary backup power for Building B and portions of Building A failed and caught fire.  A temporary generator system, located in the parking lot,  has been servicing the government center since that time.  Subsequently, a study of the County's emergency power needs has produced the two tier, two generator system shown on the attached documents.  The system consists of a larger, 450 KW Diesel generator to replace the one that caught fire, and a smaller 100 KW propane generator as an extra layer of backup for 911 and vital county communications.

At the request of the Chief Administrative Office, Facilities Management Division, Procurement and Contracts has prepared Bid No. 14-968-001.  It has been reviewed by County Counsel.  Upon approval by the Board, Procurement & Contracts will set the bid schedule, advertise for bids, and return to the Board with a recommendation for award at the conclusion of the bid process.

Action to be taken following Board approval
1. The Clerk of the Board will obtain the Chair's signature on the construction plans
2. The Clerk of the Board will forward the original signed plan set to the Department
3. The Department will advertise for construction bids
4. The Department will return with a recommendation of award for the Board's consideration
