Background
On September 20, 2013, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) notified the Sheriff’s Office that the County has been awarded $219,253 for the FY 2013 Homeland Security Grant. The grant provides funding for planning, equipment, training and exercise costs to the Sheriff's Office, Public Health, Environmental Management, Fire Districts, the South Lake Tahoe and Placerville Police Departments, and other eligible local agencies.

As required by the grant, on April 8, 2003, the Board created an Approval Authority, representing the Sheriff's Office, City Police Departments, City and County Fire Districts, and Public Health to approve the distribution of the grant funds at the local level. The Sheriff's Office acts as the lead Agency for El Dorado County and manages the grant. The Approval Authority has approved a plan for allocating the FY 2013 grant funds for various Homeland Security projects.

Reason for Recommendation
Approval of this recommendation will make funding available for eligible sub-grantees for purchase of equipment to enhance local security and emergency management efforts, and expedite the process of completing purchases within grant required timeframes through reimbursement agreements.
