There is no Change to Net County Cost. This is a Grant award for the purchase of equipment for the STAR volunteers.
Background
The Sheriff's STAR volunteer program provides patrol and community education, which covers personal/residential protection via the Neighborhood Watch program. In addition, volunteers assist with the Safety Pup program which introduces young children to the Sheriff's Office and increases their safety awareness. Some of these events are held outdoors during the summer months without any protection from the sun.
Sheriff's staff applied online for funds to purchase items for STAR volunteers who attend public events on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. On November 15, 2013, the Walmart Foundation notified the El Dorado County Sheriff's office that they had been chosen to receive a grant award.
Reason for Recommendation
The Sheriff's Office applied and was awarded $700. These funds will be utilized to purchase equipment for STAR volunteers.
Action(s) to be taken following Board approval
The Sheriff's Office will forward a letter of appreciation to the Walmart Foundation.
