Meyers, California, a community of 3,000, on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, may now be on the international map as having the most gold medals per capita.
Jamie Anderson and Maddie Bowman both won Olympic gold medals for snowboarding slopestyle and freeskiing halfpipe, respectively, with Hanah Teter placing fourth in snowboarding halfpipe at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Ms. Anderson, 23, is a professional snowboarder who grew up in Meyers, California. She won her Olympic gold medal in the women's inaugural snowboard slopesyle competition at Sochi in February and was also an eight-time medalist at the Winter X Games winning gold medals in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013. She is the fifth of eight children to Lauren and Joey Anderson of Meyers.
Maddie Bowman, 20, a Meyers resident, attending college in Utah, struck gold in the inaugural women's Olympic freestyle skiing halfpipe competion and has brought home gold medals in the Winter X Games in 2013 and 2014 superpipe division. Maddie also received honors as the top halfpipe skier by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals. Her mother, Sue Perpall, is a coach for the El Dorado High School Ski/Board Team; and Maddie's grandmother, Lorna Perpall, is a well-known music educator on the West Slope of El Dorado County.
