Supervisor Briggs recommending Board authorize the Chair to sign a letter to Congressman McClintock stating the County's support for the proposed transfer of Federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management to the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians.
Body
The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians (Tribe) desires to obtain land for the purpose of providing housing and community buildings for Tribal membership.

The Tribe is currently in the process to obtain approval to transfer a parcel of land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to the Tribe. The BLM parcel (APN 319-030-13) is approximately 40.85 acres that is contiguous to the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians (Tribe) Rancheria. This parcel is isolated from other land holdings managed by the BLM.

On June 14, 2013, Congressman McClintock introduced H.R. 2388, to authorize the Secretary of the Interior to take certain federal lands located in the County of El Dorado into trust for the benefit of the Tribe. This bill will transfer the parcel to the United States Government in trust for the Tribe. The bill further includes a prohibition on the Tribe to use the land for any gaming purpose.

It is the intent of the Tribe to use the parcel for the housing of its Tribal membership through the design of a residential community that is comprised of at least two (2) acre lots and includes some common community buildings or recreational facilities. The Tribe has committed to working closely with the neighbors and community to preserve the nature of the surrounding community.

Supervisor Briggs recommends the Board authorize the Chair to sign a letter of support for the proposed transfer of APN 319-030-13 into trust for the benefit of the Tribe, including the County's support of the Tribe's commitment to work with the neighbors to preserve the nature of the surrounding community and the Tribe's intent to develop the parcel for use as Tribal housing and community use that is consistent wi...
