Title
County Counsel recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign Resolution 070-2014 to set the date for a special election on September 9, 2014, to fill the District II vacancy on the Board of Supervisors.
Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
The cost of the special election to fill the vacancy is estimated to be $80,000-100,000.

Reason for Recommendation
On June 6, 2014, Judge Buckley of the El Dorado County Superior Court announced that a vacancy exists for Supervisor District II, in the case of The People of the State Of California vs. Raymond James Nutting.  County Charter Section 203 requires that the vacancy be filled by election to be held not less than 90 nor more than 120 days after the vacancy occurs.  The attached resolution fulfills this requirement.  William E. Schultz, Recorder-Clerk, Registrar of Voters has requested use of the date of September 9, 2014, in order to be able to fulfill all of his other responsibilities, including simultaneously conducting the general election on November 4, 2014.
